2018 Flu Vaccinations at Saltwater Medical

Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning clinics in April and May

At Saltwater Medical we believe strongly in the importance of preventative health, which is why we recommend the 2018 flu vaccine for all patients over 6 months of age.

This year, the 2018 flu vaccine will once again be available in our dedicated Saltwater Medical flu vaccination clinics.

When is the best time to get my vaccination?

The latest evidence suggests protection from the flu vaccine begins to wane 3-4 months after it is administered, and that peak flu season is again expected to be in August this year. For these reasons, timing of your vaccine is important, which is why we’re scheduling our vaccination clinics in April and May this year.

Convenient Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning flu vaccination clinics

We know it can be tricky to get into the practice during the week, so once again we’re offering you a choice of dedicated Thursday afternoon or Saturday morning vaccination clinics on the following dates:

  • Saturday 21 April | 9am-12pm
  • Thursday 26 April | 2pm-5pm
  • Saturday 5 May | 9am-12pm
  • Thursday 10 May | 2pm-5pm

How much does it cost?

There are two components to the cost of the service:

  1. Consultation fee – the consultation fee is $16.95, but your Medicare rebate will reimburse all of this (on the spot) via our TYRO machine
  2. Vaccine fee – patients who meet the government eligibility criteria will get the vaccine consumable for free. If you are not eligible for the free vaccine consumable, we will have a limited number of private vaccinations in stock, which you can purchase directly from us for $20.

Talk to your Doctor if you’re unsure whether you qualify for the government funded vaccine.

Government funded vaccine stock delivery date

The government funded vaccine stock is expected to be delivered to our surgery in mid-April, although, there is no confirmed delivery date. However, we will have private vaccine stock available for purchase directly from Saltwater Medical from the end of March 2018.

Purchasing a private vaccine from Saltwater Medical

For your convenience, we are holding some private vaccine stock on site this year. If you’re not eligible for the government funded vaccine, you can purchase one directly from us for $20, saving you the hassle of having to collect a script and pick it up at a pharmacy. This stock will be Fluarix Tetra and is suitable for anyone aged 6 months to under 65 years. More information about this brand of vaccine is available here.
