- Pale skin
- A tendancy to burn rather than tan
- A high number of unusual moles
- Light colours eyes
- Naturally light or red hair
- Lots of freckles
- A compromised immune system
- A family history melanoma
- A personal history of skin cancers
- A history of bad sunbuns
- Aged over 50 (especially males)
- Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays - sunlight is the main source of UV rays (tanning beds are another source)
